There was never a BMW 7 series made by the M division, there was no M7 badge, except for cheap sellers, somewhere around the world. There is though a small BMW tuner, who does the job for the 7 series, and they make it exquisite. The name of this tuner company is of course Alpina. The model in question is the BMW Alpina B7, presented in the Monterey Car Week

The original car was the 750i, Alpina added power, sportiness and class to it. Alpina did some work on the twin turbocharged 4.4L V8, working on the turbochargers, air intake and cooling systems, and the exhaust system. They came with more developed turbochargers with twin-scroll turbines and larger compressor wheels. They placed all of it in the V to ensure a more effective use of the exhaust gas even at low speed, and it resulted at better engine responsiveness. The total boost now is around 20 psi from the twin-turbos system. In addition to that, Alpina did modification to the air intake and cooling system. All components (raw air intake ducts, air filter housings and clean air intake manifold) guarantee maximum effectiveness. The cooling system uses new larger radiators and optimized piping. The Alpina B7 has an indirect intercooler system (air/water/air) to ensure better thermodynamic exchange, and higher performance. It has also a new stainless steel twin-pipe exhaust system that guarantees weight loss, better sound, better exhaust of the gas with less pressure. The new tweaked engine produced 608 bhp between 5750 and 6250 rpm, while the maximum torque of 800 Nm is available from just 3000 rpm. Power is put to the ground via the new generation 8-Speed Sport Automatic Transmission with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC from ZF and an all-wheel-drive system which is an improvement to BMW’s x-drive system. The transmission comes with a stronger torque converter, reinforced planetary wheels, increased cooling, and unique software, and works in three modes : Automatic(D), Sport (S) and Manual (M). Racing from 0 to 100 kph takes just 3.7 seconds (big improvement compared to the 750i engine that does it in 4.3 seconds), and the top speed is around 330 kph.

On the exterior, Alpina left its mark, and came with new aerodynamic and aesthetic elements. The body is reinforced with Carbon-fiber, steel and aluminum for weight reduction but also for better mechanical resistance. The Alpina B7 has new and rear front spoiler, that reduce drag, and increase lift on the front tires, also to cool the front brakes. It also had an active grille that plays a good role in the cooling. Also, as you can see, this is a long-wheel-base model, and sits on Alpina classic 20 inches wheels.

On the interior, Alpina fitted the B7 with luxurious equipment. The seats are covered in Hand-finished LAVALINA leather. Alpina promises luxury and comfort. The instruments panel uses LED technology that reacts with the driving mode, either in comfort, or in speed and dynamic view.

Tesla P100

The title of fastest accelerating saloon car belongs to an electrical car, this is what did the automotive world come to, yet, a title is well deserved, with an acceleration to 100 kph in just 2.5 seconds. So, in Ludicrous mode, the Tesla S P100D could achieve accelerating figures of cars like Ferrari LaFerrari, Bugatti Chiron and many super rapid vehicles.

The result is due to an improved 100 kWh battery, that also earned another world record title, the longest range going car, with a range of 315 miles on the EPA cycle and 613 km on the EU cycle. These are more figures about the record beating Tesla :

Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode specifications:

  • Range: 315 miles (EPA Estimate) / 613 km (NEDC Estimate)
  • 0-60 mph acceleration: 2.5 seconds
  • 0-100 km/h acceleration: 2.7 seconds
  • Price: starts at $134,500

The last hypercar from Mercedes was the legendary Mercedes Benz CLK GTR. It was able of doing a lot, and cost a lot too. After the Belgian GP, from “a high level source at Mercedes AMG”, confirmation came to Top gear that the hypercar is coming. 2017 is the 50th birthday, so it could be a good project to mark the dates.

After The AMG GT, and the C63 AMG, Mercedes is allowing production to another car from AMG division, it is said to be a hypercar, with many F1 characteristics, especially for the engine, it could be powered by three electric engines and a thermal F1 engine, exactly the internal combustion engine that is powering the W07 Mercedes car. Coupled with MGU-H and MGU-K units, this engine produces 730 bhp.  AMG CEO confirmed that the car will be fighting against Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. About the body, it may be a monocoque, carbon-fiber body, with weight reduction to achieve power to weight ratio 1:1.

The body could be similar to Aston Martin and Red Bull fruit of collaboration the AM-RB 001 with more class, and more sensual touch from Mercedes. It could also feature Mercedes technologies like the magic body control, active body control, rear-wheel steering, and even newer. The revealing depends on how fast the minds at Stuttgart are working.

Koenigsegg Agera RS Nayara

Only a day or so separate us from the Salon Privé Concours d’Élégance, and the big revealing of the chassis #127 Koenigsegg : The Agera RS Naraya. Naraya name was chosen from the owner : Blancpain GT Series driver Pasin Lathouras, and it is a name closely associated to his family.

Under the hood is the same engine powering all the Agera RS; a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 1160hp and 1280Nm of torque, power is transmitted to the 4 wheels via a CIMA 7-speed paddle-shift transmission, a Koenigsegg E-differential and Koenigsegg’s own traction and stability control systems.

As you can see, the car is finished in blue carbon-fiber body. Gold finishing of the leaf are made by a craftsman from Italy named Ettore ‘Blaster’ Callegaro, by hand, in Koenigsegg factory in Sweden. The whole process took two full weeks, working 12 hour days, six days per week. Interior features blue Alcantara with gold stitching. There is 18 carat Naraya name plate with 155 cultured diamonds created by Ada Diamonds in California encrusted to the dashboard.

Ferrari 488

Novitec Rosso always did good to Ferrari toys, either it was the F12 N Largo, or any other model, they were all charming, and crazy on the road. Now that there is an Aperta version of the impressive Ferrari 488 GTB, Novitec Rosso allowed themselves to tweak it. And the result is just phenomenal.

Tweaks involved the exterior, and performance. First of all, the engine, Novitec Rosso did not mess with the initial 3.0L turbocharged 488 GTB engine, but they developed two special control modules that are responsible to feeding the ECU with ECU with new mapping for the injection and ignition phases. There’s also a new exhaust system (available with ‘electronic sound management’) and an optional exhaust made from Inconel (an alloy of nickel containing chromium and iron, resistant to corrosion at high temperatures). All of this means another 101 bhp to the initial engine, which means that the Novitec Rosso 488 spider produces 772 bhp @7950 rpm and 892 Nm of torque @3,250 rpm. Top speed is expected to be around 342 km/h with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds (which is 0.2 quicker than the standard model).

For the exterior changes, Novitec fitted the 488 spider with a new carbon-fiber front spoiler lip, air intake surround, side flaps and rocker panels. At the rear, there is an additional diffuser element and a rear spoiler lip as well as carbon surrounds for the taillights and blacked third brake light.  The interior depends on the buyer’s taste Novitec offers a variety of choices in their configurator. Price too, depends on options fitted to the car.

Kia Rio Sketches

Kia best selling model (470000 sold units around the globe) in 2015, will come to Paris Auto Show (Mondial de l’automobile) in a new look, presented by Kia only in sketch form, and we hope it will look as great as it does on paper.

Kia did not give much information about the new Rio, so we expect more at the presentation in Paris. But the sketch looks a bit more aggressive, sportier, and with a bit of attitude. Designers in South Korea, Germany and California did many changes to the exterior and interior design. Kia promises great practicality and use of new technology to guarantee a safer driving. Competition will be of course with Ford Fiesta.

Lamborghini Centenario Roadster revealing

Presentation of the Lamborghini Centenario in the Monterrey Auto Week, with its sisters, the Lamborghini Aventador and the Lamborghini Aventador SV

In order to honor the centenary of the Lamborghini founder, Mr Ferruccio Lamborghini, the Italian car constructor came with two models, one that was revealed in the Geneva Motor Show, it was the Lamborghini Centenario (the name says it, for centenary), seeing the success it had, Lamborghini came with a new one; The Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, an open top variant of the already exquisite coupe. Only 20 units were made, and all of them are already sold out, to 1,75 million euros each.

The Lamborghini Centenario Roadster was revealed at the Monterrey Car Week in California. It was designed by a team of engineers in the Centro Stile Lamborghini. Designers were given the freedom to go wild with their imagination with one goal : embody Lamborghini’s new design direction while keeping with the same philosophy of the founder. The car is made entirely from Carbon-fiber : monocoque frame and body work. The result is, a curvaceous profile and an enhanced aerodynamic design. The the low overhangs in the front and in the rear created the mono-body shape of the car. Optimal aerodynamic performance was achieved by an implementation of an air channel in the rear wall back of the headrests. It smooths the airflow from the cabin toward the rear of the car. This minimizes air recirculation and turbulence thus reducing inducted drag. Rear downforce is reduced with a large rear electronically operated spoiler that works in 3 positions. In the low rear, the car has been fitted with a large air diffuser, which optimizes airflow and distribution under the car. The rear wheel arches were enlarged to give place to the rear-wheel-steering system. Designers used new method for the painting that consists in dissolving the metal while diluting and diminishing its grains, to give a better silky soft touch to the car. The Centenario roadster comes in special matte exterior. The car sits on 20 inches specific forged wheels in the front, and 21 inches in the rear.

Lamborghini Centenario Roadster

The Centenario Roadster is to achieve great performance on the road. It has a 6.5L Multi Point Injection V12, the V makes a 60° angle. It produces 770 bhp @8500 rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm @5500 rpm. Power is channeled to the 4 wheels via an independent shifting rod 7-gears gearbox. The electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system comes from Haldex, and comes with a rear mechanical self-locking differential. All this mechanical advanced tech results in a +350 kph in top speed, 0 to 100 kph in 2,9 seconds, and thanks to carbon-ceramic brakes with fixed monobloc in aluminum with 6 pistons for the front and 4 pistons to the rear, and ventilated discs, the 100 to 0 is achieved in 31 m. The steering system is Lamborghini Dynamic Steering with variable steering ratio, and Lamborghini rear-wheel-steering that allows greater stability turning at high speeds and more precision at lower speeds.

For the interior, clients car chose color according to their taste from the Lamborghini Ad Personam personalization program. Yet, the car features a luxurious interior with many specifications. The dashboard and rocket covers are covered in light brown alcantara with Bianco Polar leather inlets. Added to that, the driver can manually adjust his driving style, and car attitude. The 10 inches high definition screen allows the driver to browse the internet, check his position via a high satellite connectivity, music and other infotainment systems.
