At the latest Paris Auto Show, Mercedes unveiled the Cabriolet version of the already mighty AMG GT, the car came with one aesthetic tweak : roof goes on and off, and power tweaks.

The engine, mounted on the new AMG models is the same, it is the same 4.OL engine, V8, two turbos, but instead of producing 460 bhp on the regular engine, power was increased to reach 550 bhp, and 680 Nm in torque. All this results in a 0 to 100 kph race in just .6 seconds and 310 kph. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7‑speed dual-clutch transmission. The car uses refined elements of the more powerful sister, the AMG GT R, the rear axle differential is electronically controlled, with limited slip, in addition to that, there is the rear-wheel steering feature. Combined together, the car has better stability and is more enjoyable to drive.

On the outside, resemblance to the AMG GT R continues, from the features : a wide body, large wheels, a large “butt” and everything grew large compared to the AMG GT. Also the GT C comes with a soft top, so you need to sit still while some pistons, electric motors do stuff and magic to get the roof on or off. And you know dear readers, that weight in cars matters, so instead of having a heavy hard top, Mercedes opted for a soft top version, materials used in construction were Magnesium, steel and Aluminum.

Price tag isn’t announced yet, production will start on 2017, with more detailed features about the car, and the AMG 50th anniversary

Rosberg win

The Italian GP is done, won by Mercedes‘ diver Nico Rosberg, to be closer to Lewis Hamilton in the rank in the F1 championship standing. Ferrari was 3rd and 4th, advantage to Vettel over Raikkonen, 5th was Red Bull‘s Ricciardo.

The depart was won by Rosberg, Ferrari did an excellent start , jumping from the second row, to 2nd and 3rd. Hamilton found himself in the 6th place. Vettel ran second most of the race, he found himself third after his second pit stop. Mercedes was limited to just one stop starting with the soft tires, but Ferrari had an extra stop. Red Bull, who weren’t at their best, finished 5th and 7th, separated by Bottas. The point difference between Ferrari and Red Bull was reduced to just 11 points.

Ricciardo won the battle for the 5th place against Bottas with an excellent late breaking and early acceleration at the first S turn after the long start/finish straight. Alonso, who finished 14th, did not go home empty handed, he won the Grand Prix best lap time with a 1:25.340, a record to his name.

And even though it was Rosberg who won the Italian Grand Prix, the general ambiance was pure Italian, even at the podium, there were too many Red tiffosi and a lot more Ferrari flags.

Mercedes F1 team carries its domination over the times at the Italian GP. It had 1,2’s in all the sessions, including the qualifications’ session. The best time, and pole position were Hamilton‘s, dominant in all the qualifying session (Q1, Q2 & Q3). He did a flying last lap, beating all drivers to the pole, with a 1:21.135, leading his team mate by almost half a second.

Hamilton has the pole, yet, he will start with potentially flat-spotted tires, Mercedes will ask to change them, they may present danger on the driver himself and on the race. Ferrari locked the second row in the starting grid, Vettel (1:21.972) beat Raikkonen (1:22.065) for the third place, and the drivers will start on softer, faster tires, but will have shorter first stints. Vettel may have his 3rd place revoked, because he may have gone off track in the parabolica curve. Velteri Bottas was 5th, and Ricciardo 6th. Verstappen who was criticized for his driving style, by the race director Charlie Whiting, the F1 drivers, and even the GP2 drivers, did only achieve 7th place on the grid doing a 1:22.411. Haas, who put a driver in Q3 for the first time ever, had only the 10th position, Gutierrez had it, Grosjean will be having a 5-places grid penalty for changing his gearbox.

Esteban Ocon, who had electronic problems in the free practice on Friday, did not score a time today, and will start last, still not clear, if from the grid, or from the pits. His team mate, Pascal Wehrlein scored the 14th time, but will start from the 13th spot on the grid, due to Grosjean’s Penalty.

Both Force India drivers are behind William’s driver, Bottas, 5th on the grid. Sergio Perez was 8th and Hulkenberg 9th. To everyone big surprise Massa was out of Q2. He said that he did not get the grip he needed from his tires.

Mclaren will be having a quite difficult race with both drivers out of qualifying in Q2.

GLC 43

With new models announced, new nomenclature and a new design philosophy, Mercedes Benz came with new engine variants, the 43 AMG variant, fitted each time to a new model, and now it is the time that the GLC coupe gets the treatment. Made for middle men with a sporty taste, or fast going families, the GLC 43 AMG was unveiled today by Mercedes, a month before Paris Auto Show.

The car power heart is a 3.0L V6 engine with two turbos buffing exhaust gas inside to add more power, it results in 362bhp and 520 Nm of torque. This engine has been already introduced in the C class, C class Estate, the E Class and the SLC, and there is more to come from it. It is more powerful than the bestselling range model : The GLC coupe 300 model. The small engine is capable of great deals, racing to 100 kph takes just 4.9 seconds, sadly it has his top speed limited to 250 kph. Transmitting power to wheels comes via AMG tweaked version of the Mercedes’ 4matic all-wheel-drive (69% to the rear; 31% to the front) with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

GLC engine

The car has been fitted with adaptable suspension that works according to 5 driving modes : Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. The driver can chose each mode via the Dynamic Select Menu, configurations will apply to engine, gearbox and steering as well. Also, the car sits on two options of wheels, either 19″ to the front and 19″ to the rear, or 21″ each. Body kit wise, it comes from AMG as a sporty package, plus a rear boot spoiler.

GLC coupe

With the official reveal in the Paris Auto Show (Mondial de l’automobile) more details will be revealed, like the price, interior options. Competition will be Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-pace 3.0L and the Audi Q5.

The last hypercar from Mercedes was the legendary Mercedes Benz CLK GTR. It was able of doing a lot, and cost a lot too. After the Belgian GP, from “a high level source at Mercedes AMG”, confirmation came to Top gear that the hypercar is coming. 2017 is the 50th birthday, so it could be a good project to mark the dates.

After The AMG GT, and the C63 AMG, Mercedes is allowing production to another car from AMG division, it is said to be a hypercar, with many F1 characteristics, especially for the engine, it could be powered by three electric engines and a thermal F1 engine, exactly the internal combustion engine that is powering the W07 Mercedes car. Coupled with MGU-H and MGU-K units, this engine produces 730 bhp.  AMG CEO confirmed that the car will be fighting against Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. About the body, it may be a monocoque, carbon-fiber body, with weight reduction to achieve power to weight ratio 1:1.

The body could be similar to Aston Martin and Red Bull fruit of collaboration the AM-RB 001 with more class, and more sensual touch from Mercedes. It could also feature Mercedes technologies like the magic body control, active body control, rear-wheel steering, and even newer. The revealing depends on how fast the minds at Stuttgart are working.

The F1 Belgian Grand Prix ended with a win for Mercedes , Nico Rosberg, who started from pole, carried on until the last lap, managing the advantage he had on his direct chaser, on the second march of the podium, Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo and to the big surprise of everyone Louis Hamilton closed the last march. It was a pretty thrilling race, with a Ferrari crash at the start with Verstappen, a virtual Safety car, a huge crash by Kevin Magnussen, a safety car and red flag.

The Race first stage : Penalties served, Hamilton sat on the last line with Fernando Alonso, before them was Gutierrez for Haas F1 who was serving a 10-places grid penalty and Marcus Ericsson who preferred to start from the pits. Pole was for Roseberg, next to him Verstappen and in the second line, the two Ferrari Horses ready to prance at any moment. Red lights gone off, Ferrari did an amazing start, until getting to the La Source virage, this is where all went funny : Vettel closed on Raikkonen who was pushing with Verstappen. It resulted in Vettel losing control over his car, waited for the field to clear to go again racing, Raikkonen sustained a puncture and front wing damage and Verstappen lost a chunk from his front wing. At the first lap, right after the Les Combes straight, Manor driver, Pascal Werlhein cleaned Jenson Button off the track, and carried him from behind, the two drivers quit. Carlos Sainz suffered a car puncture and tire explosion which ended his race. It all turned to the favor of Williams, Force India’s Hulkenberg, and Hamilton who grabbed a few places. At the end of the first lap, Roseberg was in the lead, then Hulkenberg and Ricciardo. Hamilton was 15th. The race carried on being eventful, until the 9th lap, where Magnussen lost control over his car in Radillion Eau Rouge, went in all directions and hit the tire wall. The crash was due to loss of control over the back of the car. Charlie, the race director ordered a safety car right away, but it lead to a 17 minutes red flag, until the tire wall was fixed. teams took their chance for change of race strategy, fixing damage on the cars.

Race Restart : The race restart was behind the safety car, who existed at the 11th lap. The drivers made use of fresher tires, and especially the long straights for impressive overtakes. Raikkonen and Verstappen touched once again, the Dutchman could have taken Ice Man into pieces while defending his place. Having an aggressive defense strategy and waiting for his opponent to go in a direction or another so that he makes his mind. Alonso, 3rd after the restart, had to undergo overtakes one after the other, to finish the race in the 7th place, 1 minute behind the lead. Hamilton, carried his way, but did not achieve more than the third place, the gap in the championship was reduced by 10 points, and Roseberg is second just by 9 points. Force India did a nice race in general, finishing 4th and 5th, advantage to Hulkenberg over Perez, they scored precious points and getting to the 4th place in the constructors championship.

Hamilton did the fastest lap of the race, cars being full on fuel, and tires being more used, he did a 1:51.583. Despite having a one stop strategy, Verstappen finished off the points, the last point was grabbed by Felipe Massa for Williams.

AMG GT R reveal

Mercedes AMG introduced, in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and with the craziest possible way, its new AMG GT R, which is a new variant of the AMG GT, that comes with sportier looks, faster, more powerful, and with a better brain. The AMG GT R, came from the sky, lifted by a helicopter and deposed in the Mercedes-Benz World test track in Brooklands, to be welcomed by an AMG GT-S and the AMG GT3. The introduction came hand in hand with the celebration of a 1,2,3 podium at the Nurburgring 24h. The three cars came straight to business, having fun, being tail happy, drifting, and giving it their best. It was all spectacular.

First thing is first, the completely new look, the AMG GT R comes in a vibrant shade of green, after its teaser being made in forest, by the triple F1 world champion, Louis Hamilton. The car sits on lightweight, AMG performance wheels, in black matte color. The wheels were adjusted as follow, 19 inch to the front, and 20 inches to the rear, all four wheels have 325 wide Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. The car has a low slug front section, with a forward inclined radiator vertical-strats grille which give it a shark nose expression. After spending many an hour in the wind tunnel, testing, and being reshaped, the AMG GT R came with a aerodynamic, muscular aggressive profile. Front fenders were used for both weight reduction, and better aerodynamic results, it also gives the car 1.8 inch more in width. In the rear, it has a large rear diffuser, new aluminum side walls, which allow a 2.2 inches addition to the width. It has a new air spoiler, and for weight gain, a high grade carbon roof. Total weight gain was 15 kgs compared to the AMG GTS.

Under the bonnet lays the power train of the AMG GT R, the 4.0L twin Turbocharged tweaked V8 engine, the same M176 engine put inside the standard GT, but with more tweaks, is able to reach the same power figure as the old 5.5L M157 engine. So now, the engine unleashes 585 bhp, has a crazy torque of 700 Nm. Standing start to 100 kph takes 3,6 seconds which the same as the GT S variant. Top speed will be around 320 kph. All this was achieved thanks to the AMG speedshift DCT 7-speed automatic transmission. Not only that, but the new turbochargers fitted to the engine, have now 0,15 bars more compared to the old ones. On the inside, the old seats were removed, and instead, AMG fitted its sport, manually adjustable, seats for light weight. They are covered in NAPPA leather, and DINAMICA microfibre components, guess that the tailors at Mercedes AMG know what luxury, and being suited up means. The car comes with new AMG Interiour night package. Elements such as the infotainment system, the Burmester Sound System and Climate control were kept despite trying to save weight. Then, we go the buttons, and settings. The new AMG GT R is the first ever Mercedes Benz to feature rear-axle steering : at low speeds, the rear wheels tend to turn opposite to the front wheels, to have a tighter turning circle, whereas, at high speed, the rear wheels turn parallel to the front wheels to gain on stability. In addition to that, the car has new ESP and Traction Control mode, that works in 9 modes, from wet to off. The driver can adjust dumpers according to three driving modes : comfort for city drive, Sport and Sport plus, for crazy, go fetch drive. For the first time, Magnesium was used on some components to reduce weight. New suspensions were fitted; double wishbones and unibal bearings, for a more track focused drive, and coil cover spring, that adapts to the driving commands.
